Biography

Though I was born in Newark, New Jersey, our family moved to Granada Hills, California when I was three years old and I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. In fact while attending Granada Hills High School, I met my husband Mark. We have two grown children who are already out of college and working. They are great people and I hope you can meet them sometime.

I graduated from CSUN with a degree in Liberal Studies, earning my California Professional Clear credential shortly after. My teaching experience is mostly with math and science in middle school; however, I have a number of years teaching computer based yearbook and Creative Writing as well. I even spent a short time teaching a little elementary school and extended time teaching ESL to adults, so I have worked in many aspects of education.

I love learning so a couple of years back I began a pursuit in higher education and earned a Master of Arts in teaching and then a second Master’s in Leadership and Administration. I am also about half way through a doctorate program in education.

I love teaching and am constantly working toward creating a benevolent learning environment for my students. I want them to have every opportunity for meaningful, relevant, and fun learning experiences as possible.

Philosophy

First and foremost I am committed to creating a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, as well as engaging. It is my experience that the best learning comes by discovering and by doing. Some of our deepest insights and understandings come from action, followed by reflection, coupled with a search for improvement. Just as Confucius observed,” I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand”. There is a great power of learning by doing. This is true for all students young or old (including the teacher). I work hard to provide my students with a number of opportunities to be actively engaged in the processes of learning. I am committed to the number of learning styles and intelligences reflected in each class member. I appreciate the partnership of the family and work hard to be a supporting member of the learning community. My objective is help students construct responsible, respectful, and educated understandings of citizenship not only for today at CHIME Charter Middle School but as a life time learner for the community at large. It is always my hope that the children I teach will learn, grow, and laugh.
