Bio:

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Davis, and I would like to welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year at CHIME Charter School. I teach all sections of 6th grade Science and one section of 6th grade Social Studies. You can view my 6th grade Google website at the following link: http://sites.google.com/site/msdavis6thgrade/home.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2003, with a multiple subject teaching credential. I am also currently working toward a Masters in Science Education from California State University Northridge. Before coming to CHIME in 2005, I taught 5th grade in Charleston, South Carolina.

My philosophy in education is firmly rooted in providing meaningful, accessible curriculum and instruction for all students. I believe that we are all smart in different ways, and that by addressing these needs through a variety of instructional styles, all students can be successful.

One of the things we have started in the last year is an interactive classroom blog. You can view the blog here: http://chimescienceliteracygrade6.blogspot.com. This has been very popular in the classroom and we will be continuing it this year as well. Students are able to earn tickets for blogging and then submit them to the “blog box” in our classroom. Once a month we will draw names for a monthly blog party!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment at any time to come in and talk with me.

Homework:

Homework will be given everyday. Assignments will be posted on the homework board in my classroom, as well as on my online homework page. Homework will be explained in class so that students understand the expectations. Students are responsible for all homework assignments. If a student will be absent, please call the office in advance and let them know so your child’s hometeam teacher can collect work from all teachers to be picked up by a parent. Please also find a few homework buddies who you can call with homework questions!

Student Grades:

Grades are based on a total points system.  Points will be awarded for homework, tests, and class projects or experiments.  Earned points will be divided by possible points and multiplied by 100.  Late work will not be accepted unless it is accompanied by a doctor’s note or an extenuating circumstance.  Extra credit is not provided; students are expected to do the work assigned to the best of their ability and turn it in on time.
