Bio
Hi there! My name is Tawnie Black, and I am excited to welcome you into my three 6th grade Language Arts classes, my 7th grade Language Arts class, and my 6th grade drama class. I was born and raised in California and am the oldest of six children. I love snowboarding and my favorite color is green. I graduated with an English degree from California State University, Northridge and am currently enrolled in professional development classes at CSUN.
Upon graduation, I took my love of the language arts directly into the classroom and became a teacher at a private middle school. I taught there for five years, working specifically to develop their grammar and writing curriculum. I also headed their drama program and coached their girls’ volleyball and basketball teams.
I have always believed that my classroom should be a place where someone can experience the wonder and excitement of the written and spoken word. My passion for literature has led me to believe that Language Arts classes should make learning the incredible array of subjects under the umbrella heading of “language arts” both challenging and enjoyable.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me (tawnie.black@chimeinstitute.org). You are also welcome to make an appointment to come in and talk with me.
